FAQs on Test and Tag

Test and Tag is a safety procedure where electrical appliances are inspected and tested for safety. It involves visually inspecting the appliance, followed by electrically testing it using a Portable Appliance Tester.

The frequency of testing and tagging largely depends on the type of environment and the specific equipment in use. Here's a guideline to help you determine the right intervals: Construction and Demolition Sites: Every 3 months. Factories, Workshops, and Manufacturing Environments: Typically every 6 months. Places with Equipment Supplied by Cord Extension Sets: Annually, or every 12 months. Office Environments: Devices such as computers, printers, and stationary power tools should be inspected annually. Commercial Cleaning Equipment: Every 6 months. Residential Areas in Hotels, Motels, and Similar Establishments: Every 2 years. Hire Equipment: Before each hire.

Only trained and competent individuals, often licensed electricians or trained technicians, should perform Test and Tag. They should have the necessary knowledge and tools to conduct the tests accurately.

If an appliance fails the test, it's labeled as "Faulty" or "Do Not Use." The equipment should be either repaired or replaced to ensure safety. It's crucial not to use the appliance until it's deemed safe.
