Old wiring failing, cracking or not up to the job? SEQ Sparky provides full and partial home rewiring across Brisbane Southside. Every cable replaced, every connection made properly and your home brought up to current Australian standards. Fully licensed, fully insured, quoted on site by Anthony.
Serving homes across Brisbane Southside, Logan, and Redlands.
Electrical wiring installed before the 1990s was designed for a fraction of the load modern households demand. Cable insulation degrades over time, connections loosen and the risk of overheating and fire increases with every year. If your wiring is over 30 years old it should be inspected and likely replaced.
You can see cracked, yellowed or crumbling insulation on cables in your roof space, under the house or inside your switchboard. Once insulation breaks down the live conductor is exposed and the risk of electrical fire and shock increases dramatically. This is one of the most common issues we find in older Brisbane homes.
Your breakers keep tripping, lights flicker when appliances turn on or you smell a faint burning odour from switches and power points. These are signs of deteriorating wiring, loose connections or circuits that are overloaded beyond their original capacity.
You are gutting a kitchen, adding a second storey, converting under a Queenslander or doing a full renovation. If the walls and ceilings are coming off this is the most cost effective time to rewire because the cables are fully accessible. Rewiring during a renovation avoids tearing into new plasterboard later.
A full rewire is not a small job but it is the single most important safety upgrade you can make to an older home. New wiring protects your family, your property and your insurance.
Deteriorated wiring is one of the leading causes of house fires in Australia. Old rubber and cloth insulated cables dry out, crack and expose live conductors. A full rewire with modern TPS cable removes this risk entirely and gives your home decades of safe, reliable wiring. A switchboard upgrade is typically included as part of a full rewire to match the new wiring with modern protection.
A full rewire brings your home’s electrical system up to current AS/NZS 3000 standards. This includes correct cable sizing, proper earth bonding, safety switches on all circuits and a compliant switchboard. Essential for insurance, property sales and peace of mind.
Older wiring was sized for a kettle, a toaster and a few lights. Today’s homes run air conditioning, induction cooktops, EV chargers, home offices and entertainment systems. A rewire gives you properly sized circuits with capacity for everything you use now and everything you will add in the future.
If a fire or electrical incident occurs and your wiring is found to be non-compliant or deteriorated, your insurance claim could be affected. A full rewire with a Certificate of Electrical Safety provides documented proof that your home’s wiring meets current standards.

Straight answers on cost, timing, disruption and what is actually involved.
A partial rewire of one or two circuits starts from $2,000 ex GST. A full rewire of a standard 2 to 3 bedroom home starts from $8,000. Larger homes, Queenslanders and multi-level properties start from $15,000. The final price depends on house size, number of circuits, access and wall type. Anthony quotes on site with a fixed price in writing.
Most full rewires take 3 to 5 days depending on house size and access. Queenslanders and homes with easy roof and under floor access are faster. Brick homes where cables run through wall cavities may take longer. Anthony gives you a clear timeline before work starts.
In most cases no. Anthony works room by room and restores power to each section as it is completed. Power may be off for portions of the day but is typically restored each evening. If a full power shutdown is needed for a longer period Anthony will let you know in advance.
In almost all cases yes. A full rewire includes a new switchboard with modern circuit breakers, safety switches on all circuits and surge protection. The old board is removed and replaced as part of the job.
Common signs include cracked or brittle cable insulation in the roof space, frequent breaker tripping, flickering lights, burning smell from switches or power points and a switchboard with ceramic fuses or rewirable fuse wire. If your home was built before 1990 and has never been rewired, an inspection is recommended.
Yes. Queenslanders are actually one of the easier home types to rewire because of the accessible roof space and open under floor area. Cable runs can be pulled through without cutting into walls in most cases. Anthony has extensive experience rewiring Queenslanders across Brisbane Southside.
In most cases minimal wall repair is needed. We run cables through the roof space and under the floor wherever possible to avoid cutting into walls. Where wall access is necessary we keep the openings small and neat. Any patching required is discussed in the quote before work starts.
Yes. Every full rewire includes safety switches on all circuits as part of the new switchboard. This covers power, lighting, air conditioning and any dedicated circuits. Full RCD protection is a standard inclusion on every rewire we do.
Rewiring is generally considered a maintenance and upgrade item, not an insurable event. However if your wiring is found to be deteriorated and non-compliant, not rewiring could affect a future insurance claim if an electrical fire or incident occurs. The Certificate of Electrical Safety you receive after the rewire documents that your home meets current standards.
Yes. A full rewire is the best time to add dedicated circuits for air conditioning, EV chargers, induction cooktops, home offices and outdoor areas. Adding circuits during the rewire is significantly cheaper than running new cables after the walls and ceilings are finished.
