You should test every smoke alarm monthly by pressing the test button until the alarm sounds. Replace batteries annually for alarms with replaceable batteries. Clean alarms every six months with a vacuum to remove dust from the sensor. Replace the entire alarm unit every 10 years regardless of whether it still appears to work.

Yes. Safety switches protect against electrocution and some electrical fires but they do not detect smoke or fire from non-electrical sources like cooking, candles, heaters or cigarettes. Smoke alarms and safety switches serve completely different purposes and every home needs both.
A standard residential switchboard upgrade takes between two and four hours. The power is off during the changeover but we keep the outage as short as possible. If your existing wiring needs repairs or additional circuits are required, the job may take slightly longer. We give you the expected timeframe when we quote so you can plan around it.
